Eat What You Watch

Capitol is teaming up with Sam Neill’s Two Paddocks to bring you a dinner inspired by their favourite movie. Hosted by Two Paddocks, watch Hunt for the Wilderpeople at The Embassy with a few glasses of wine, some pork scratching's and foraged nibbles, then move back to Capitol for kai. The lesser-known Kiwi wilderness delicacy, babaganoush, will of course feature, but Capitol will work its magic on rabbit, pigeon, wild boar, venison and maybe even an eel, all washed down with organic Two Paddocks wines. Grab your Swandry and get real.

It's a Meat Lover's Paradise

Capitol partially occupies the site of an old Wellington butcher, called Farleys (whose sign can still be seen at the rear of our building). We were thinking about how, as an island nation, the main component of the early Māori diet was seafood, while the British settlers viewed an abundance of meat as a mark of prosperity and with the proliferation of imported domestic animals, many butchers, such as Farleys sprang up. Today in Wellington we have wonderful gastronomic diversity, but for Dine this year, Capitol explores the merging of Pakeha and Māori gastronomy: the humble meat pie and the not-so-humble Bluff oyster.

Dish Description: Awatoru wild venison and Bluff oyster housemade pastry-top pie with puréed kūmara and watercress.
