While in the UK many years ago I discovered a takeaway pie shop in a little Oxford street and was blown away by the quality and simplicity of the product. What better concept for an English pub with Kiwi roots than the humble pie, elevated to a gourmet level? A pie truly worth its crust, the PIE-THAGOROS is made with high-quality local ingredients and slow cooking techniques. We sear and slow cook brisket of beef with root vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, beef stock and craft beer until meltingly tender and brimming with flavour. We enrich the sauce with tomato and garlic and encase the filling in a crisp short crust base. And to 'top' it off, a removable puff pastry lid gives you the option of adding more toppings to taste, such as jalapeno peppers, grated mature cheddar or crispy fried shallots. Served over creamy wholegrain mustard mash with a rich beef jus and crowned with proper house-made English mushy peas , you can't go wrong. As for the name, why not have some fun with it?

Crisp shortcrust pastry shell packed with a slow-cooked lamb and vegetable curry, spiked with Indian spices and offered with either mustard mash, hand cut chips, mushy peas and jus.
Hand cut chips topped with your choice of real mushy peas, onion gravy, chip shop curry sauce, melted cheese and gravy or just naked, with salt.
