Great Scott, get ready for a trip back in time, as the team opens the doors to 232 Oriental Bay - circa 1983 when Beach Babylon was the iconic Castaway Restaurant & Coffee House.
Grab your leg warmers, loose linen, Bata Bullets, and hair gel - the Castaway's 1983 menu has been pulled from the archives and is back with a 2023 makeover.
Veganised weinerschnitzels, revived shrimp cocktails, remixed blue lagoons, the team are resurrecting all of Castaway's signature dishes and bringing the 80s back in all the best ways.
This waterfront spot is often fondly remembered as The Beachcomber and Castaway, a place where people had first dates or came back to after parties for desserts and coffee. Beach Babylon is paying homage to 80s cuisine in by using the plethora of ingredients, influences, and techniques available to us in 2023.

CGR Merchant & Co. and Beach Babylon are heading back to 1988 to create a dining and drinking experience inspired by Roger Donaldson's iconic film, Cocktail.
Immersed in 80s nostalgia, you’ll be treated to three retrospective food courses, and reinvented cocktails yanked into the modern day.
Come dressed to impress and watch CGR Merchant & Co. bartenders getting their shake on. When we pour, we reign!

The iconic Castaway Restaurant and Coffee House occupied 232 Oriental Parade from 1979-1987. Cordon Bleu was their signature dish and it's been given a 2023 makeover with all the things available today that couldn't have been imagined in 1982.
