Festival Awards Participant Info

Three Festival Awards are once again up for grabs in 2018:

  1. Best Festival Dish (as part of Dine Wellington)
  2. Best Burger (thanks to Burger Wellington, presented by Garage Project)
  3. Best Cocktail 

We have slightly changed timings in regards to the Awards, following your feedback. All three Awards will follow the same format. The winning eatery, food truck or bar will score some pretty sweet prizes, as we up our game. Read on for how you can be in it to win it!

The Festival Awards Process

31 Jan Applications open for Visa WOAP 2018  Apply! Get your Dine/Burger/Cocktail offer in the programme.
10-26 Aug Public scoring open from 10am Friday 10 August - midnight Sunday 26 August. Consumers can rate (out of 10) every burger, cocktail and festival dish they consume on visawoap.com Promote your offers and encourage them to score yours highly. Find out what people think early on so you can tweak if need be to get those 10/10’s
27 Aug Scoring is tallied and analysed, and the top 5 finalists from each category contacted and publicly announced.
Let everyone know if you are a finalist! We encourage you to keep your offers on the menu following the Festival ending.  
27 Aug -2 Sept Judging commences. We will be in touch to organise a time for our three judges + photographer to come in and score your offer during the week following the Festival (NB: this will no longer be "mystery" judging).  You must be prepared to plate up your finalist offer to 3 x judges the week following the Festival. Presentation, atmosphere, service and more are all scored by our judges during their visit, and added to the public's scores. 
3 Sept Festival Awards Night and winners announced. Finalists, industry, stakeholders, sponsors and media will be invited to the ticketed Awards Night. We will announce the finalists and the winners in each category, following which you can celebrate the the night away. We're working on a more delicious and fun evening (think pizza, beers and tunes) for all industry to come and celebrate the Festival.   

You are no longer required to plate up your dishes at the awards, as judging and photography will have already been completed. 

Grab tickets (these will be low-priced) for you and your team (whether you are a finalist or not!), come along and have a good time. 

The judges scores are added to the public's scores to determine our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. 

All winner's and finalists are encouraged to keep their offer on the menu following the Festival ending.

Judging Criteria 

20%the final weighted score from the public (unknown to judges and added last)
15%service, such as knowledge of staff, timeliness (judges)
15%presentation (judges)
15%use of local ingredients (judges)
5%beer matching (judged during mystery tasting)  OR 5%: tapas matching (judged during mystery tasting) OR beverage matching (judges)
5%relation to the festival theme (judges)
25%taste (judges)
