Open for Business: The Thistle Inn

The Thistle Inn is #OpenForBusiness! Located in Thorndon suburb, three minutes walking from parliament, it is with no surprise that The Thistle Inn's visitations have taken a hit over the past few weeks. However, their door is open and they will be more than happy to serve you a fantastic and safe lunch - dinner experience! Pop in, grab a bite and have a chat with them (maybe with a drink or two). They need our support now more than ever! We chatted with Scott Benton, The Thistle Inn's General Manager; read below.

Tell us about yourself: Hi, I'm Scott the General Manager of The Thistle Inn. I have been here since 2015, the longest job I've had in my career. I am very lucky to work with an incredible group of people who all share a passion for hospitality.

Tell us what makes you special?  Like any great hospitality venue, people come for the amazing food and drinks that we offer. I like to think that what makes us special, and the reason customers stay and return is because of our team. We are also a Wellington institution, established in 1840.. and still cranking!

What support would you love to see from your guests? At the moment we just want to see all of our customers back in the pub having a drink or joining us for lunch.

Any  favourites on your? I think our fish and chips are the best in the city! We also have a scallop and black pudding dish that never comes off the menu which changes seasonally.

Where are you picking up lunch/dinner/brunch on your day off? Highwater on Cuba are doing great things, they're ahead of the game for hospitality in NZ and my first choice for a meal out.

Any quotes or thoughts you want to share?

  1. "Surround yourself with people whose eyes light up when they see you coming.
  2. Slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be
  3. The top of one mountain is the bottom of the next so keep climbing"
