Wellington is less than one hour’s flight from New Zealand’s main cities, and Wellington International Airport is just 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre. New Zealand has perfect road trip conditions with very little traffic and a heap of more than decent scenery. Wellington is located on New Zealand’s major highways – state highways 1 and 2.

National bus and train services arrive at Wellington Railway Station which is located in the city centre. Kiwi Rail operates a popular train service – The Northern Explorer – between Auckland and Wellington, connecting Wellington with most major North Island cities.

The journey takes around 10 hours and takes you through some of the most stunning parts of the North Island.
